Knowing what hardware and software is running across your fleet is an important first step. But visibility alone doesn’t solve the problem.
When outdated software or a vulnerability is identified, IT teams still need a practical way to make the necessary changes across vessels, without turning one decision ashore into a separate administrative task for every ship.
That’s where GT Hub Operate comes in.
Taking the next step with GT Hub
GT Hub Identify gives shoreside IT teams a central view of fleet hardware and software, with asset discovery, vulnerability identification, compliance reporting and fleet dashboards.
Operate builds on that foundation by giving teams the tools to act on what they find.
With Operate, IT teams can send software deployments directly to vessels from the GT Hub platform, helping reduce the need to coordinate routine changes through separate, vessel-by-vessel processes.
It brings two important parts of fleet IT management closer together: understanding what is happening across your fleet and doing something about it.
One action ashore, managed across the fleet
Managing software across a distributed fleet is very different from managing a conventional office IT environment.
Ships may be running different systems, following different operating schedules and working with widely varying levels of connectivity. Even relatively routine software changes can therefore create significant work for shoreside IT teams.
Operate has been designed with those realities in mind.
As Jamie Jones, Managing Director at GTMaritime, explains:
“Knowing which systems and software are installed across a fleet is only the starting point. The real challenge is applying the right updates across ships with different systems and operating schedules, often with widely varying levels of connectivity.”
“A single decision ashore should not create a separate administrative task for every vessel. Operate allows IT teams to manage that work centrally, so they can spend less time coordinating routine deployments and more time dealing with issues that need their expertise.”
Building stronger cyber resilience
The ability to act is also an important part of improving cyber resilience.
Identifying outdated software or vulnerabilities gives IT teams the information they need, but the next challenge is reaching the affected vessels and making the appropriate change.
By bringing fleet visibility and software deployment together within GT Hub, Operate helps close the gap between identifying an issue and taking action.
And because Operate includes the capabilities available through Identify, customers can start by building greater visibility of their fleet and move to Operate when they are ready for additional management capabilities.
What’s next for Operate?
Operate is now entering an early adopter phase, with GTMaritime working closely with an initial group of customers ahead of wider availability in the coming weeks.
Windows Update management is also planned as a future addition, extending the actions that IT teams will be able to manage centrally through Operate.
GT Hub has been built specifically for distributed maritime environments, bringing fleet information, reporting and day-to-day IT management together in one place.
With Operate, we’re taking the next step: from knowing what needs attention to being able to do something about it.
